As President and Chief Development Officer of VALENTINE based in Los Angeles, Chelsea Alexander helps clients that depend on her domain knowledge and strategic expertise in the areas of corporate social impact, environmental and social governance, and stakeholder capitalism. Chelsea launched VALENTINE with a desire to combine her 12 years of experience experience working in both corporate development and philanthropy.
Chelsea Alexander has directed campaigns across nationally ranked non-profit organizations. Dedicated to achieving results, she has experience in organizational and program assessment, identifying revenue and constituent opportunities and developing solid strategic plans to achieve goals. She has worked for over a decade delivering results streamlining processes, perfecting revenue stream identification and cultivation and creating lifelong volunteers and constituents for organizations. Working across both the corporate and non-profit sectors gives Chelsea invaluable insight into both of these worlds. Through VALENTINE, she continues to drive organizational change at the highest level, for the biggest impact.
With a client base of corporate, university, and non-profit institutions, her leadership at VALENTINE helps drive organizational change. Chelsea’s consulting services help clients form partnerships, develop policy, create new growth strategies for market development, and raise capital in an increasingly virtual space. She leads a diverse team, creating a network of professionals in corporate development, public policy, operations and finance. Most recently, we helped a leading non-profit with $48 million in annual revenue to redefine their recruitment and retention goals, redevelop their strategic plan, and execute high-level corporate partnerships in what has been an especially challenging year for fundraisers.
Prior to launching her own consulting firm, Chelsea held development roles at top-ranked national organizations. In her previous positions as Campaign Director at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Chelsea worked to expand revenue opportunities for the Student Series Campaign. By focusing on developing strategies to achieve revenue goals, partnering with more than 8,000 schools and 1,400+ volunteers across Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. She built revenue projections and evaluated new growth opportunities, while ensuring her team constantly tracked ROI and KPI progress on all development activities. And because Data, Analytics, & Insights were critical to these efforts and were key drivers in decision making, she pushed to overhaul legacy IT systems. Her recommendations for new processes, new capacity, and new capabilities were adopted on a nationwide basis.
As Director of Development at the American Lung Association, Chelsea was responsible for creating growth strategies and developing new revenue opportunities for both Los Angeles and Orange County. Campaigns she directed raised $1+ million dollars annually, including the Lung Force Gala, Lung Force Walks, Lung Force Expo, and State of the Air Conference. These efforts resulted in the highest ever revenue recorded in the 15 year history of the Los Angeles Fight for Air Climb—one of her proudest accomplishments during her tenure at ALA. Launching a new peer-to-peer fundraising campaign proved key to the success of these efforts. By partnering with a network of medical partners like Cedars-Sinai, Keck Medicine of USC, Adventist Health, and City of Hope, her chapter piloted a new revenue model to identify market readiness for national adoption.
And as Community Director with the March of Dimes, She was responsible for all development and operations in her seven (7) county region. She directed annual campaigns that raised $1.5 million, collaborating with a wide array of stakeholders. These campaigns included March of Dimes Annual Gala, March for Babies Walk, March of Dimes Community Events, Prematurity Awareness Campaigns, and our NICU Family Support Program. To help lead these efforts, She brought together a new Board of Directors and Executive Leadership team, which included leadership from corporate partners like Eli Lilly, Cook Medical, and Anthem Insurance. Leveraging this team also gave her the opportunity to launch a new state-wide campaign. By partnering with hospitals and major universities, She created a new event series focused on Maternal Health to connect with constituents at the mission-level. This event series also engaged new donors and new corporate partners to create brand new revenue streams and remains one of her proudest legacies.
